The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) has recently expanded its commitment to providing streamlined access to their cutting-edge research by joining GetFTR, a cross industry initiative designed to provide trusted pathways to research. With the support of Atypon, their journals platform partner, SEG is now fully integrated into both aspects of the GetFTR service – Publisher and Integrator – greatly enhancing both content visibility in discovery tools and alerting readers on their platform to which references are available.

Boosting Visibility through Publisher Services

By integrating with GetFTR’s Publisher service, SEG’s content benefits from improved  discoverability on all platforms that have integrated with GetFTR. This includes major academic platforms such as Scopus, Dimensions, CAS SciFinder and more. Additionally, for users who have downloaded the GetFTR Browser Extension, SEG content is more discoverable on any website where a DOI is used. This means that researchers looking for geophysical studies can now more easily find and access SEG’s content directly from search results, related articles, citations, social media, newspapers and pretty much anywhere their content is referenced.

For SEG, this is an important development because they gain access to powerful discovery tools. Atypon also played a crucial role in this integration. Known for their commitment to helping their publishers access and benefit from the latest technologies, Atypon ensured SEG was signed up for both parts of GetFTR’s service, providing a comprehensive approach to improving content discoverability and access.

Now, researchers viewing SEG’s references are guided to other publishers’ content via signposting and smart links, allowing streamlined access to related papers from article citations. GetFTR links will appear when the reader is entitled to the content via their institutional subscriptions, or because it is free or open access. This approach not only helps SEG provide more value to researchers but also fosters a more comprehensive research experience for their readers. Weathers said, “It’s an essential component of helping researchers move through the next steps in their journey.”
