From 8–9 May 2026, with the support of BGP, the SEG Continuing Education program invited Dr. William Abriel, former SEG President, founder of the SEG Advanced Modeling (SEAM) project, and internationally renowned instructor, to successfully deliver the corporate training course “Development Geophysics” in Zhuozhou, Hebei Province. The course covered the industry’s most relevant technical directions, ranging from field delineation, development, and production to CCUS, unconventional resources, and carbonates. Based on real-world project cases, Dr. Abriel’s instruction helped participants broaden their international perspective, enhance practical capabilities, and inject new momentum into BGP’s continued development in complex reservoir development and new energy sectors.

BGP and SPG provided strong support for this training, which represents another achievement of the long-term strategic cooperation between SEG and BGP. Together, they are committed to advancing geophysical technology and fostering industry progress.

On the afternoon of 11 May, Dr. William Abriel visited China University of Petroleum (Beijing) (CUPB) and delivered an inspiring lecture titled “SEG Large Scale Multi-Physics Earth Model” to the faculty and students of the SEG Student Chapter at CUPB. During the lecture, Dr. Abriel introduced in detail the nine major earth models developed over more than a decade by SEG, in collaboration with dozens of global companies and many internationally renowned geoscientists. These models have strongly supported the research work of geophysicists, exploration enterprises, academic institutions, and students worldwide. He encouraged and welcomed more Chinese geophysicists and enterprises to actively participate in and contribute to related research and collaboration.

Dr. Abriel’s visit to China has further strengthened academic ties between SEG and BGP as well as Chinese universities, and has effectively promoted international exchange and talent development in geophysical technology.
