The Society of Exploration Geophysicists continues to invest in the future of geoscience through its growing CORE (Careers, Opportunities, Resources, and Engagement) program—bringing its impactful student outreach initiative to Indonesia for the very first time.

Hosted alongside the Asia Pacific Offshore Exploration Symposium, this milestone marked SEG’s first CORE program in Indonesia and welcomed 24 delegates, including students and young professionals from across the region. As part of SEG’s commitment to accessibility and global engagement, the program sponsored registration and accommodation for 10 students representing leading institutions such as Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Diponegoro, UPN Yogyakarta, and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara.

For many participants, this experience was transformative. Several students presented technical papers and posters for the first time, an important step in building confidence, visibility, and professional credibility within the geoscience community.

The CORE program blends mentorship with interactive learning. Participants engaged in a dynamic, two-part experience: a mentorship session led by industry professionals—Mahesh Raghvani, Tepy Septyana, Joseph M Reilly, Dedi Yusmen, and Sandeep Chandola—followed by the high-energy “Geo Genius Games” trivia competition. Winning participants were awarded electronics and geology-themed prizes, adding a fun and competitive edge to the learning experience.

This event marks SEG’s fourth CORE session overall and its third international program, underscoring the Society’s commitment to expanding its global footprint and fostering the next generation of geoscientists. All participants also received one-year SEG memberships, ensuring continued access to resources, networks, and professional development opportunities.

As SEG continues to grow its global outreach, initiatives like CORE play a critical role in connecting emerging talent with industry leaders, providing real-world exposure, and building a stronger, more inclusive geoscience community.
