Sandeep Chandola

Sandeep Kumar Chandola is currently the General Manager and chief geophysicist at PETRONAS Exploration. He leads a diverse team of more than 120 bright geophysicists who deliver value-adding solutions to core exploration and production and new energy businesses. He has more than 39 years of experience in the petroleum industry in various technical and leadership roles within PETRONAS and ONGC. His key contributions include championing new technologies at both companies to address exploration- and development-related challenges. He brought new momentum to the capability development initiative for young talents in PETRONAS, through the world-class Geoscience Capability Development program, which has benefited more than 4000 participants. Earlier this year, he led his team to launch the first fully cloud-based green geophysical computing platform in Malaysia, boasting a two-times-fold increase in PETRONAS’ geophysical computing capacity.  Chandola is a member of the board of the International Petroleum Technology Conference. He is an active member of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers; Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists; Society of Petroleum Geophysicists, India; Board of Geologists Malaysia; and SEG. He has served SEG in various capacities and is currently cochair of the Asia Pacific Advisory Committee. He was SEG’s Honorary Lecturer in 2014. Chandola has more than 70 international publications and is the recipient of the prestigious National Petroleum Management Award conferred by the government of India in 2005. He is also the recipient of SEG’s special commendation award in 2024. Chandola received a master’s degree in physics in 1984, followed by a specialized diploma in petroleum geophysics from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 1985. He greatly enjoys fitness and works actively to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion on platforms such as the Women’s Global Leadership Conference and POD mentoring program at PETRONAS. He strongly believes that everyone should dream, as dreams do come true.
