Alison Weir Small joined the SEG Foundation Board in 2024 and currently serves as Vice-Chair. In 2017, Alison was honored with a Lifetime Membership Award for her service to SEG. She is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, and a geophysical consultant in Midland, Texas through her company, Weir Small Geophysics LLC. Alison graduated from Southern Methodist University, 1984 (BS Geology, BA Anthropology) and Pennsylvania State University, 1986 (MS Geophysics). She has worked for both large and small companies since beginning her career in Midland in 1988 working first in the production division of Mobil E&P US, Inc. (1988-1993), then as Senior Geophysical Consultant at Parallel Petroleum LLC in Midland (2003 – early 2016), after which time she began consulting for other clients. Alison has been active in SEG programs and leadership since serving as Permian Basin Geophysical Society President in 2008. She has served on the SEG Youth Education, Global Affairs, and Bylaws (Chair) committees as well as PBGS Council Representative, and multiple governance task forces. SEG Board service includes a term as Treasurer followed by multiple years of service on the Finance committee (one term as Chair). In addition to financial related duties, while on the Board, Alison served on committees and task forces involved with bylaws, planning, strategy, and the prioritization of SEG activities. She has remained active in SEG since her time on the Board serving as a member of the Transformation Task Force and continuing to work toward implementation of initiatives that sprang from this work. Alison is currently a member of SEG, the Permian Basin Geophysical Society, the West Texas Geological Society, and is a licensed geophysicist in the state of Texas. Publication credits include co-authoring of several papers and presentations.
