Landslide Investigation for the Benefit of Poor Minority Ethnic People in Northern Vietnam

The main goal of this project is landslide investigation in Lao Cai province, where the natural disasters have significantly impacted the lives of the local ethnic minority communities, primarily the H’mong people, who make up 53% of the population in the Sa Pa district.

The team is undertaking an integrated analysis of geodata, satellite image, landslide risk map for the study area via desktop study, site visits and first field campaign in dry season (geotechnical investigation and geophysical surveys). After the geophysical surveys and geotechnical analyses, the team will create and transfer knowledge via seminars and training courses for local capacity and resilience building.

This work engages eight undergraduate and graduate students from geological engineering, civil engineering, including two Ph.D students from Petro Vietnam University (PVU).
