LLMs are extremely valuable for solving a wide range of problems in Engineering and exploration geoscience. This course teaches the beginner both the theory and practice of LLMs in solving Geoscience problems. Several Colabs will be tested by the attendees to solve posed problems, and students will also pose their own practical problems to be solved by an LLM.
Duration
One Day
Who Should Attend?
Geologists, petroleum engineers, and geophysicists
Level
All
Prerequisites
User needs to know simple linear-algebra concepts such as matrix-vector multiplication, matrix inversion, vectors, and matrix-matrix multiplication. The user needs to know some simple math concepts, such as the derivative of a function, the Gaussian probability distribution, standard deviation, variance, and mean.
Learner Outcomes
- LLM Theory and Practice: User learns the theory of LLMs and their practical solution to problems in geoscience.
- Different LLM Platforms: Learn about the various LLM platforms that are tuned to a specific task, such as code writing or educational applications.
- Solve User’s Practical Problem: Attendee can bring their own small data set and ask an LLM to analyze it to solve a practical problem.
- Training an LLM: User uses Colab to train an LLM.
- New Toolkit for Solving Practical Problems: User will know how to employ, or perhaps train, a specific LLM to solve their specific problems.
