Students Teaching Students: Building the Future of Geoscience

Students Teaching Students: Building the Future of Geoscience

The SEG Foundation is launching a powerful new global initiative designed to strengthen the geoscience workforce from the ground up. The SEG Student Chapters – K-12 Outreach Global Fundraising Campaign empowers university students to bring hands-on STEM and geoscience education directly into K–12 classrooms in their local communities.

At its core, this campaign is about students teaching students — a model that builds confidence, leadership, and communication skills at the university level while inspiring curiosity and discovery in younger learners. It creates a clear and intentional pipeline: Grade School → University → SEG → Workforce.

Through this initiative, donors can support a specific university, region, or country — or contribute to the global program. Every $1,000 raised funds one complete K–12 outreach initiative led by an SEG Student Chapter. Smaller gifts are pooled to ensure that every dollar contributes directly to meaningful programming.

The impact is tangible and measurable:

  • $50 provides outreach materials and hands-on demonstrations
  • $100 supports transportation or event costs
  • $250–$500 helps deliver full geoscience activities
  • $1,000 funds an entire outreach initiative

This campaign does more than fund classroom activities. It develops leadership in university students. It gives donors transparency and choice. And it reinforces SEG’s position as a global leader in education, outreach, and workforce development.

Whether you are giving back to the university that shaped your career or investing in the next generation of scientists across the world, your contribution creates real impact. From Houston to Hanoi, from lecture halls to elementary classrooms, this is how we ensure geoscience has a vibrant and diverse future.

Every gift — no matter the size — helps university students bring hands-on STEM education into K–12 classrooms around the world.
