Scholarships: Why Apply?
Prestige
SEG scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and commitment to a career in geophysics. Awards range from US$500 to US$10,000 per academic year.

Global Impact
Students from around the world receive support each year. Scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year were awarded to students in 13 countries: Canada, China, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Romania, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, and the United States.

What to Expect When You Apply

Are You Eligible to Apply?
SEG Scholarships are based on merit.
Eligible students:
√ High School Seniors planning to attend college next year –– or Undergraduate or Graduate College Students
√ Above average grades
√ Pursue a college curriculum directed toward a career in applied geophysics
Scholarships by Qualification
Some scholarships are awarded based on additional criteria such as:
Citizenship
- Non-USA citizen (undergraduate or graduate)
Residency
- Alaska resident (any university)
Field of Study
- Mineral Exploration Geophysics
- Applied Electrical Geophysical Methods
- Potential fields, Electromagnetic methods, instrumentation, or data analysis
University
- University of Oklahoma
- University of Houston
- Select universities in Alaska, Ontario (Canada), United Kingdom, Egypt, and Suriname
Special Designations
- U.S. military veteran (honorably discharged)
Seeking a Scholarship Renewal?
EG Scholarship recipients must show their commitment, collaboration, and leadership participating in activities that promote the advancement of geophysical science around the world. To be considered for a scholarship renewal recipients must participate in at least one of the following activities:
√ Be a SEG paid student member or member of a SEG Student Chapter
√ Participate/volunteer in SEG or SEG partnered events to facilitate learning, networking, and new business development
√ Attend SEG workshops/forums/seminars/conferences
√ Submit publications, organize outreach events in the name of the SEG student chapter
Ready to Apply for a Scholarship?
Applications are accepted annually from 1 November to 1 March.
Submit one application. Students are automatically considered for all eligible scholarships.
