SEG Student Members in need of financial assistance to attend a Distinguished Instructor Short Course (DISC) are encouraged to apply for the Dave Monk Tuition Assistance Fund.
A Distinguished Instructor in 2020, Dave Monk’s tour was interrupted by COVID and through this experience, he wanted to contribute something that would make a positive impact. In 2024, he established the Dave Monk Tuition Assistance Fund to support SEG Student Members in their education on important trending topics such as the ones offered by DISC.
Through this fund, up to 200 student members from around the world can receive 100% tuition assistance for the SEG Student Member rate (US $100).
“As a previous Distinguished Instructor, it’s great to have the opportunity to help our students with DISC in the future,” Monk says. “Students today are the geophysicists of the future, and DISC is a step on that path. It’s an honor to be able to help these young geoscientists on their journey.”
To apply for this assistance, student members should send a request to [email protected], including a statement explaining the reason for their application. Upon receipt of the request, they will receive an application form to fill out, providing background information. Once returned, the student member will receive a registration code that enables free registration. Applications will be accepted until the fund is fully utilized.
Dave Monk Tuition Assistance Fund Awardee Low Wan Ching, from the University of Bristol in the UK said, “SEG’s Tuition Assistance Program was a game-changer! Thanks to this program, I could access the ‘Storage of Carbon Dioxide in Saline Aquifers’ course by Prof. Philip Ringrose – for FREE! It’s invaluable for my research on carbon capture storage.”
We strongly encourage SEG Student Members to take advantage of this opportunity and apply today.
