SEG/SPE Integrated Reservoir Characterization, Surveillance and Management: Advances and Challenges Workshop

About

20–21 June 2023
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Workshop Details

Hydrocarbon resources addition via new discoveries has become more challenging in recent years and therefore increasing the recovery from producing and mature hydrocarbon fields is critical to assure production sustainability and meet the growing energy demand. A significant increase in recovery factors can be achieved through the application of cutting-edge geophysical technologies in conjunction with a robust reservoir management plan that includes integrated surveillance strategies at all levels (well, pattern, area, and field), both surface and subsurface.

Time lapse (or 4D) seismic is a mature technology and its value is well established in the industry.  4D seismic measures changes associated with production away from the wells, which helps optimize infill drilling, IOR and injection strategies. However, the pace of its deployment in many parts of the world, including the Asia-Pacific region, has been slow due to several reasons including lower chance of technical success in complex heterogeneities/reservoirs, high data acquisition and processing costs etc. In addition, the full value of the 4D seismic can only be realized with close integration with the production and reservoir depletion performance analysis for effective reservoir management and surveillance and successful IOR from the producing fields. Borehole applications also play an important role to supplement the 4D seismic and other sub-surface data in successful reservoir characterization and management.

Workshop Objectives

The objective of this workshop is to have an open discussion on how 4D technology and its integration into reservoir characterization, surveillance, and management will have to evolve in the next five years to make its deployment sustainable, especially in the South-East Asia region.

The workshop encourages presentations by domain experts and professionals in geoscience and reservoir engineering to share best practices, lessons learned, and future directions. Special focus shall be on current challenges being faced in enhancing recovery from the brown fields and potential solutions through the new advances in seismic data acquisition and processing, borehole applications, data interpretation, integration, and visualization.  Advances in digital domain, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) applications shall also be shared.
