High Performance Computing for Exploration, Reservoir Development and Energy Transition

About

6–8 November 2023
Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia

Extreme Computing plays a major role in our energy business. Looking across multiple industries, our business undoubtedly exploits the largest high-performance computing (HPC) capacity. Extreme computational simulations and data analytics enable high productivity by making better use of huge amounts of data. Although computational capability is accelerating, we have yet to see how extreme its effects are on pushing Upstream to transform its business model. Therefore, algorithms, relating to Big Data, AI, IoT, HPC and Cloud Computing, performing and scaling as best as possible, on the latest computing platforms, will have a direct impact on many of the decisions reshaping our industry.

The workshop will enable all participants to get acquainted with the very latest advances in HPC architectures and how these may be applied in geoscience applications used in the oil and gas industry and energy transition.

The workshop proposes a healthy mixture of various contributions from four different groups:

  1. Oil and gas as well as energy companies exposing their main business needs and how HPC impacts their bottom line
  2. Service providers demonstrating their accomplishments through HPC and upcoming technology
  3. Academia showing their latest research endeavors, results, and initiatives in HPC
  4. HPC vendors presenting current and upcoming hardware as well as software technologies that will ensure effective utilization of HPC

Who should attend?

The goal of the workshop is to promote a dialogue among domain specialists, scientists, and engineers who work at the intersection of high-performance and emerging computing, and exploration/development in the energy industry as well as related fields.  Attendance and contribution is encouraged from all who seek to address the algorithmic, computing, and workflow challenges facing the future of exploration (seismic or otherwise), interpretation, simulation, and development planning.  Attendees and speakers from industry, academia, and government labs are welcome.

Workshop Overview and Format

The format of the workshop will feature presentations by invited key experts in their fields who will share their experiences. The workshop will serve as a unique opportunity to have open and extended discussions among the participants.
