Speaker Bio
Andrew Binley
Andrew Binley is Professor of Hydrogeophysics at Lancaster University, UK. His research focuses on improved understanding of the storage, transport and exchange of fluids within the subsurface environment. He has developed and applied geophysical approaches to a wide range of groundwater-related problems from lab- to field-scale. Andrew has worked on the development of new methods for data assimilation and inverse modelling. He was written (and made publicly available) several inverse codes for electrical geophysics problems, which continue to be widely used across the world. He has published over 200 journal articles and two books. He was elected Chair of the AGU Hydrogeophysics Committee (2006 – 2008) and Deputy Chair (2003 – 2006).
In 2012 he was recipient of the SEG/EEGS Frank Frischknecht Leadership Award and in 2013 he was selected as AGU Fellow. He has served as associate editor for Water Resources Research (18 years), Vadose Zone Journal (20 years) and other journals. Within Lancaster University he has served at Head of Department (2006-2009) and Associate Dean (2011-2018).
