Tulsa, OK, 14 January 2020 – A gold open-access journal published by GeoScienceWorld (GSW) in collaboration with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and six other leading geoscience societies today began accepting submissions for review.
SEG has joined AAPG, the Geological Society of America (GSA), the Geological Society of London, the Society of Economic Geologists, the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM), and the Mineralogical Society of America as initial participating publishers in a refresh of Lithosphere, which GSW has acquired from GSA. The journal began publishing in 2009, turned open access in 2018, and has just begun accepting submissions as the new GSW-operated journal yet already is recognized in the Science Citation Index Expanded.
Lithosphere will publish research in all areas of earth, planetary, and environmental sciences. The newly appointed editorial board and reviewer base, selected for their expertise across the geosciences, will help guide this expansion. As a community-driven journal, this collaboration among prestigious societies and editors in the geosciences provides a fresh channel for a wide range of scientifically rigorous and valid research.
SEG authors who need to satisfy funder mandates such as Plan S that require publication in a fully open-access journal will have the option to submit papers for review by Geophysics, Interpretation, or The Leading Edge editors and reviewers with the intent to publish their work in Lithosphere, or they may submit directly to Lithosphere. Authors also will have the option when submitting to Society journals of indicating whether they are willing to have their manuscripts transferred to Lithosphere for consideration if their work is not accepted by the SEG-administered journal but is deemed by editors of value to geoscience researchers and practitioners.
Lithosphere seeks submissions of geoscience manuscripts that may be described as:
- Scientifically rigorous and valid, with observations separated from interpretations, and conclusions supported by data
- Useful contributions that tell us something new and are discussed in the context of existing literature
- Ethically sound and meeting all applicable research integrity standards
- Reproducible with methods, analyses, and statistics (as appropriate) detailed sufficiently to be followed
SEG is one of seven founding societies of GSW, which launched as a journals aggregation platform in 2005. SEG contributes more articles per year to the aggregation than any other of the 28 participating publishers. Geophysics, Interpretation, and The Leading Edge are among 46 journals on the platform. SEG also is among 10 book publishers who make their content available through GSW eBooks, which launched in 2014.
