Society of Exploration Geophysicists celebrates successful 2017 Annual Meeting, announces 2018 Annual Meeting in Anaheim

Houston Annual Meeting exceeded post-Harvey expectations

Tulsa OK, 5 October 2017 The SEG International Exposition and 88th Annual Meeting in Houston concluded Friday 29 September with attendance of 7,266, exceeding SEG’s “Post-Hurricane Harvey” projections by 45%. Geoscientists from more than 70 countries convened for this annual information exchange, educational, and networking event.

This was the first large conference to take place in Houston since Hurricane Harvey. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner toured the exposition floor during the meeting, and said, “I’m excited … they did not cancel, they stayed the course.”

Due to the recent flooding and damage resulting from Hurricane Harvey, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the SEG Foundation made donations of $50,000 each to the Houston Food Bank and the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund at the Greater Houston Community Foundation.

The SEG 2018 Annual Meeting in Anaheim to be held 14-19 October 2018 was previewed at the Annual Meeting in Houston, highlighting numerous technical program topics including big data, unconventionals, high-performance computing, data analytics, cloud computing, passive seismology, near surface, seismicity, geohazards, deep water, Circum-Pacific, and more.

Planning is underway for a joint workshop with the AGU Near-Surface Section along with numerous special near-surface technical sessions. Scholarship applications for students will be available online no later than 1 November and must be submitted no later than 1 March 2018. Call for Abstracts opens 1 February 2018 and closes 1 April 2018. Learn more about the 2018 SEG International Exposition and 88th Annual Meeting
