Workshop Details

This workshop is a good avenue for geohazards practitioners from multi-disciplines such as geophysics, geotechnical, WELLS, civil and structural engineers, pore pressure and geomechanics as well as sub-surface/ventures to convene and engage in discussions to share knowledge and exchange experience in managing geohazards issues. Brainstorming on what could have been the challenges in acquiring good geohazards data will provide good insight in shaping the direction of the geohazards investigation in the future.

Geohazards challenges could well begin with bringing drilling rig to site, ensuring safe emplacement of the rig, and eventually making sure that drilling operations don’t encounter shallow hazards such as shallow gas pocket, shallow water flow, or excessive losses during drilling, just to name a few. On the development side, it is crucial to understand the regional geohazards challenges such as complex seabed topography, environmental-associated hindrance such as carbonate outcrops, active geological features, such as mud volcanoes and underwater stream so that optimal field development can be planned that can sustain the lifespan of the assets.

While we brace the transition toward the next generation, this workshop also aims to showcase latest technology and methodology that could be adopted to add value to geohazards assessment and management.

The target participants include (but not limited to) geohazards executives, geoscientists, geotechnical engineers, WELLS Engineers, civil and structural engineers, subsea engineers, pore pressure and geomechanics SMEs, rock physicists, and asset owners.

Workshop Format

The format of the workshop will feature presentations by invited key experts in their field and share their experiences. The workshop will serve as a unique opportunity to have an open and extended discussions among the participants.

5 sessions and 1 Panel session (3 days). We will aim for one keynote speaker per day with closing session at the end of the workshop to serve as outlook going forward. The Oral presentations are made up of 15 min talk followed by 5 minutes of Q&A. After each session 30 minutes discussion session will be planned. The objective of this session is allow participants to discuss in details and learn from each what has worked for them and debate on issues and challenges facing them during their daily workflows. Session chairs will also serve as discussion leaders during the 30 minutes.
