About

25–27 October
Qingdao, China

The deep and unconventional oil/gas resources have great exploration potential and will be an important replacement area for oil/gas exploration industries in the future. However, due to the limitation of conventional geophysical prospecting theories and methods, the existing techniques are far from meeting the urgent demands of exploration depth, accuracy, and resolution. A critical bridge linking rock mineral, porosity, fracture, fabric structure, fluid properties and surface-measured geological/geophysical information, rock physics provides effective technical support for exploring deep reservoirs, offshore oil/gas, complex lithology of tight oil/gas, and determining key targets, which facilitates the rapid development of novel theories, methods and techniques, and helps break through the limitations of geophysical techniques for deep and unconventional oi/gas resources.

In order to facilitate the development of the rock physics subject and relevant technical areas, the 2nd SEG Rock Physics Workshop: Challenges in Deep and Unconventional Oil/Gas Exploration, jointly organized by SEG, China University of Petroleum (East China), and Hohai University, will be held on 25-27 October 2019 in Qingdao, China. Experienced geoscientists from China and around the world are cordially invited to attend the workshop.

The workshop will focus on, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • Geological processes and basic rock physics theory
  • Rock physics characteristics and effective prediction methods for deep and unconventional oil/gas
  • Rock physics model and anisotropy in fractured reservoirs
  • Digital core and applied techniques
  • Logging petrophysics
