Throughout the year the SEG Foundation promotes special funding opportunities for its donors and for the general public. This page highlights current campaigns and causes that are in need of support.
Geoscientists Without Borders (GWB) projects benefit global communities in need facing environmental hardship and natural hazards due to resource shortages, natural and human induced disasters. Donors have helped fund 34 projects in 27 countries since 2008. Most of the projects are related to water management and preparedness for natural disaster such as earthquakes, landslides and tsunamis.
GWB strengthens global geoscience application through multidisciplinary projects with humanitarian impacts and provide training to the next generation of geoscientists. However, this cannot be accomplished without your financial help. The SEG Foundation currently has matching funds available for gifts made to the GWB Support Fund. Help us raise $100,000 to fund another two new projects in 2018.
If you are 70½ or older, you can support a number of SEG programs through a meaningful and tax-free gift directly from your traditional or Roth IRA. Use this to advance the mission of the Society and directly support our growing geophysical community.
What are the benefits?
Contact your IRA Manager today and request a distribution be made directly to the SEG Foundation. Request that your gift be identified with your name, address, and intention to use it as an IRA rollover. Thank you!
The SEG Foundation has recently established honorary endowment funds to honor outstanding SEG colleagues who have made contributions to geophysics, the Society, and the oil and gas industry. The first Honorary Endowment Fund will be dedicated to Mike Forrest for his lifelong leadership and contributions in these areas. Mike has chosen the Geoscientists Without Borders (GWB) program as the beneficiary of his named honorary endowment fund — the Michael C. Forrest Honorary Endowed Fund.
Please join the many others who are honoring Mike with a gift to the GWB endowment today. Donate Now by selecting SEG Programs and then Michael C. Forrest Honorary Endowed Fund in the fund drop down list. Thank you!
