Full-waveform inversion (FWI) is considered a final solution of seismic imaging. It is extremely attractive because of its capability to construct high fidelity and high resolution physical models, including rock density, seismic velocity, anisotropy, etc. Original FWI theory has been proposed more than three decades ago. Due to the rapid increment of computational capability, FWI implementation on 3D seismic exploration became more and more realistic. Recently, numerous researchers explored FWI theory and implementation on various aspects, and many solutions to different challenges were proposed. Real data application was obtained on a significant amount of successful cases. Further, FWI theory and implementation were also extended to new areas with new challenges arising.
This workshop focuses on the communication of new discoveries for FWI theories and applications, encourages sharing experiences, knowledge, and challenges on various inversions of seismic exploration.
The workshop will be held by SEG from 20-22 November 2017 in Beijing, China and the Call for Abstracts opened on 10 July 2017 and closes on 15 September 2017.
The subjects for abstract submission include:
- Innovative ideas for FWI
- Travel inversion and solution to cycle skipping
- Multiple parameters and anisotropy FWI
- Low frequency seismic data and FWI
- High frequency FWI amplitude versus least-squares reverse time migration
- Opportunities and challenges on FWI implementation for marine and land data
- FWI case study
Abstracts Format & Submission
The abstract should be no more than four pages and should strictly comply with the SEG standard Expanded Abstract Template. The abstract should be written in English and submitted in either Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF format. The submission deadline is 15 September 2017 (11:59 PM CST) and all abstracts will be submitted to (SEG China)
