Font guidelines

Use sans serif font (Arial or Helvetica). Use an en dash, not a hyphen.

Do this: Arial font is used on all text and en dashes are used on the y-axis numbers.

Example of font errors

Capitalization guidelines

Ensure you are using a minus sign (−), not a hyphen (-) to indicate negative numbers and subtraction.

Do this: Use lowercase letters, do not italicize P and S, use a minus sign to indicate negative numbers.

Example of capitalization correctly used

Not this: Capital letters are used, P and S are italicized, hyphens are used to indicate negative numbers.

Italics and spacing guidelines

Italicize scalar symbols consistently in the text, figures, and figure captions. Insert a single space around mathematical operators.

Do this: Italicize scalar symbols, insert spaces around mathematical operators, use lowercase text.

Example of italics correctly used

Not this: Scalar symbols are not italicized, text is capitalized, and there are no spaces around mathematical operators.
